The unexpected but well waited attendance on 2022 VMAS was already the highlight of the night for multiple fans, the swifties, but she topped all the expectations by announcing a brand new album.
Swift’s 10th studio album, Midnights, is due October 21, and marks her first new music since the releases of ‘Folklore’ and ‘Evermore’ in 2020.
The news were dropped during her acceptance speech for the award of Video Of The Year, her third win on the night with the 10 minute version of ‘All Too Well’.
“You guys, I’m just so proud of what we made, and I know that every second of this moment that we wouldn’t have been able to make this short film if it weren’t for you, the fans. Because I wouldn’t be able to re-record my album if it weren’t for you. You emboldened me to do that. And I had sort of made up my mind that if you were going to be this generous and give us this, I thought it might be a fun moment to tell you that my brand-new album comes out Oct. 21. And I will tell you more at midnight.”
The 40 minutes of waiting till the official announcement made her fans go crazy about the news and about her incredible intelligence and creativity. Her bio on social media had changed to ‘meet me at midnight’, her websites had a clock waiting for the time to hit, on Spotify the albums owned by her got new visualizers - the video shows a clock with lyrics of songs that mentions the word ‘night’ and ‘midnight’. Swift and her team had every little detail planned.
The theories were beyond creative, some thought she was going to release 1989 (Taylor’s versions ), others thought it would be Reputation (Taylor’s version, they looked at everything seeking for clues, her dress, the date, the year, math was made, but no one was prepared for the announcement.
She kept her promise and when the clock marked 12am a post on social media was made and Midnight was presented to the world, the record contains 13 tracks. “This is a collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through terrors and sweet dreams. The floors we pace and the demons we face. For all of us who have tossed and turned and decided to keep the lanterns lit and go searching - hoping that just maybe, when the clock strikes twelve… we’ll meet ourselves.”
