A lot of new artists have been breaking onto the music scene in recent years. These young artists show us the direction that music is headed, not only using inspiration from some of their favorite artists, but going places that other artists have never gone before. Introducing this month’s trifecta of up-and-coming artists in pop, rock, and indie music, we will be delving into the indie pop artistry of Flwers, the dark/alt-pop sounds of COLE, and the alternative rock sound of Kid Pastel.
Flwers, a group of 4 dudes from Chicago, kicks off our features for this month. The band started releasing music in 2020 with a sound reminiscent of 2015 indie pop. Their latest song, "Songs About You," released in March of last year is a catchy tune that will easily get stuck in your head in the best way. And, their most popular song, "Caught Me by Surprise" will leave you singing at the top of your lungs. 2024 comes with some exciting updates from the band, including upcoming new music and a live performance in Chicago with A Story Told. If you want to check out Flwers, you can catch them at their show at Beat Kitchen in Chicago on April 30th. Tickets to the show can be found here.
Up next is the Nashville-based alt-pop force COLE. COLE started releasing music in 2019 and has, since, been capturing the attention of listeners with her signature sound mixed with her vulnerable storytelling. Her most recent album, insomniac, demonstrates her honest lyricism blended with ethereal soundscapes, causing it to be her most well received work to date. This album includes 2 of her most popular songs, "if i'm too much, go find less" and "yours," which are great places to start before you start streaming her artist page on a loop.
Bringing the features home this month is Kid Pastel, "the group of degenerates making stuff we want to hear." The band local to Nashville is a brand new band, just starting to release music with this project in 2022. Their most recent song released in 2023, "Cracks and Breaks," is an interesting mixture of classic rock, alternative rock, and hard rock. Their sound is very reminiscent of 80s and 90s rock, which is refreshing to see make a comeback in 2024. If you vibe with this band, you're in luck because they have upcoming shows, supporting RYLY, NIGHTBREAKERS, and Joseph Jett in May. Tickets to these performances can be found here.
Up-and-coming artists are the future of music, and we are excited to see how they innovate within the music industry on their journeys!
