This type of tweet lamenting the men's ability to "yearn" comes up on X, formerly known as Twitter, now and again. I just don't understand - how can someone believe this when Zacari, Davion, and SiR have teamed up to go on tour?
A typical humid summer night in Atlanta carried the buzz of a sold out show at the Tabernacle, one of Atlanta's few church-turned-event venues. Zacari started off the yearn-a-thon with some acoustic covers of "Ain't No Sunshine" and "LOVE.FEAT.ZACARI". He lamented the feeling of seeing a girl you like settle for less in "Butterflight" and having crushing from a long distance with "Girl Next Door" and "Give You Up". It was vulnerable without being too sad for a concert - a perfect blend to get the audience started.
Davion Farris took the stage next. Oldest brother to the headliner, Inglewood SiR, and "Rhythm and Flow" competition winner D-Smoke, Farris is also looking to further his impact in music, as a songwriter and as an artist. The crowd's favorite performance came with his self-proclaimed favorite song, "Make Love". "Take it off, take it off, take it off", he croons as he rips his shirt open - a physical manifestation of the song's message that you can't have real love without spiritual vulnerability.
Inglewood SiR, or just "SiR", opened his set with the intro to his latest album, "Heavy", an introspective album that tackles his battles with depression, masculinity, family, and addiction. He showed a mastery of pacing, balancing songs from Heavy with his previous songs about yearning, like "John Redcorn" and "You Can't Save Me", then bringing the audience to frenzy with hype songs like "POETRY IN MOTION" and "D'Evils". His use of background visuals also helped with accentuating the message of each song in the set, displaying lyrics, movie clips on gun violence, and innovative live audience videos. He brought Zacari and Davion back up for respective duets and even allowed a lucky audience member to pick and sing along to "That's Why I Love You" - she sang Sabrina Claudio's verse! He closed the set just showing appreciation to the crowd, taking it all in - a reminder that his efforts to be sober and to show up for his family and his art are not wasted.
